Fundraising

How will my money help?

add remove

Any money raised will help us to continue funding type 1 diabetes research to improve lives and one day eradicate the condition for good. We can’t do what we do without our generous supporters.

To give you an idea of how your money comes together, if 100 One Walk participants raise £150 together you could fully fund a research project like Joanne’s. Read more about Joanne’s research into how the immune system could be used to treat type 1 - Studying a type of immune cell to develop drugs to target it

How much do I have to fundraise?

add remove

There is not a minimum fundraising requirement, we just ask you to fundraise as much as you can.

We do suggest a fundraising target of £150. Any fundraising you are able to do will be hugely appreciated!

JDRF does also understand that some supporters may find fundraising challenging, and will be here to help every step of the way. Please email onewalk@jdrf.org.uk for any support.

I need help fundraising - what should I do?

add remove
JDRF have created a great fundraising guide, which is a good place to start. You will find resources to help on our One Walk resource page.

1. Set your target
Aim high! Your fundraising will help us to continue to fund type 1 diabetes research to improve lives and one day eradicate the condition for good.

2. Personalise your page
You'll have a bigger impact if you tell your story and explain why your cause is important to you. Fundraisers with pictures on their page tend to raise 14% more per photo. Are you ready for your close up?

3. Spread the word
Once your fundraising page is ready to go, make sure everyone knows about it! You can share your page using Facebook, Instagram or Twitter and include it in your email signature. Or why not send group messages and updates using WhatsApp?

4. Double your money
It’s worth checking out if your workplace offers Matched Giving. Some employers will double the amount you raise! Your HR department should be able to help with this.

5. Boost your fundraising

a) Car boot sale
Have a good clear out and sell your unwanted goods to raise funds.

b) Bucket collection
See if your local train station or supermarket will let you collect

c) Get your office involved
Host a coffee morning or arrange a fancy dress day and ask everyone to donate £1.

Do I need to fundraise online?

add remove

Fundraising online isn’t the only option, but it is the easiest. Any donations received to your fundraising page will automatically come to your page and to JDRF.

If you wish to fundraise offline we have a sponsorship form and fundraising pack available on our resources page.

You can then pay in you offline fundraising on our website.

Yes, you can. This is your walk, your way. We always suggest sharing your walk with friend and family but however you complete your One Walk you'll be raising vital funds for type 1 research.

Can I walk with a group?

add remove

Yes, but we advise you to keep it within close family and friends.

Do I have to complete my walk by a certain date?

add remove
No, there is no date you need to complete your walk by. One Walk Your Way is all about the supporter organising their own event for when it suits them!

You could plan your Walk Your Way to be on the same weekend as one of our in person One Walks. These are the 2, 15 and 22 June.

Do I need to get permission from someone to organise a group fundraising walk?

add remove

We advise participants to check with their local council or property owner. Participants should alert local councils to the route and expected numbers of participants.

You can find your local council here.

Do I need to get public liability insurance?

add remove

JDRF does not take any responsibility for any issues that may occur during One Walk Your Way. It is not a legal requirement to have insurance for a voluntary or community event – but you might want to make sure you are covered. If your walk involves the general public, we advise having Public Liability Insurance. An insurance broker will be able to help.

If I’m organising a walk with other members of the public, does there need to be a first aider?

add remove

It’s not a requirement, but it is a good idea to have first aid supplies on hand, and qualified first aiders if possible. You can get advice from St John Ambulance or the Red Cross.

Can I take collections from the general public?

add remove

If you want to collect money in a public place you need to obtain permission from your local authority and usually well in advance. If you plan to organise a collection on private property, for example in a shopping centre, supermarket or railway station, you must ask the landowner for permission. JDRF can provide a letter of authority to prove you are walking for JDRF which can be found in the resources pack.

How do I fundraise for One Walk Your Way?

add remove

You have an option of setting up an online fundraising page which you can share with friends, family and on to your social media channels. We do also have sponsorship resources such as sponsorship forms available on our resources page.
